Training Workshop on Rules of Procedures of Balochistan Assembly

As a direct output from the August 2017 inter-Provincial knowledge sharing event in Lahore the Balochistan Assembly, asked SUBAI to support efforts to sensitize Secretariat Staff about the Balochistan Assembly Rules of Procedures.  The interactive and participatory workshop was facilitated by the Director General of Parliamentary Affairs, Punjab Assembly who is widely considered as a master trainer in terms of the practical interpretation and application of the Assembly Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan.

Discussion sessions focused on streamlining the operations of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan in accordance with the ‘Provincial Assembly of Balochistan – Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business 1974’. Mr. Inayatullah Lak, Director General Parliamentary Affairs and Research, Provincial Assembly of Punjab, delivered the workshop.  Mr. Lak spoke about the Constitutional provisions governing the operations and current parliamentary practices of other Provincial Assemblies. The range of themes discussed included: Constitution of 1973, Legislation, Government Bills, Resolutions and Amendments to the Rules of Procedure, Committee System and types of committees, Budget, etc.

A total of 20 officials from the Assembly Secretariat attended the workshop including Deputy Secretaries, Under Secretaries, Research Officer, Librarian, Law Officer, Assistant Secretary, Coordination Assistants, Media Reporters, Superintendents, Assistant Private Secretary and other Secretariat members. The workshop also provided the opportunity for participants to share their knowledge and understanding about the Rules of Procedures and best practices in successfully implementing them.
