The PSC meeting – which was also one year to the day since the formal Launch of the SUBAI project was a useful meeting insofar as the Honourable Speaker and all Members of the Steering Committee reaffirmed in the presence of Ms Elisa Tesselli European Union Delegation First Secretary, that the Assembly was very satisfied with the work of the SUBAI Project team. Another reason for celebration was the passage the day before by the Punjab Provincial Assembly passed of “The Punjab Anand Karaj Act” which SUBAI has been helped provide technical assistance and support since 2017 and was introduced as a Private Member Bill in the Assembly on October 24, 2017 by the only Sikh Member of the Provincial Assembly Honourable Ramesh Singh Arora. The Act helps Sikh couples to register their marriages and dissolutions at the Union Council (UC) level. This is a historic moment for the people of Punjab but for the country as there is now global recognition that this is the first of its kind legislation in the whole world.
A good day in Punjab!
